Regine Sitruk-Ware1, Pirjo Inki.

Abstract

The levonorgestrel intrauterine system (Mirena((R))) has been developed as a long-acting method of contraception. This medicated device, inserted into the uterus, delivers a small daily dose of a progestin, levonorgestrel, into the uterine cavity. It is one of the most effective methods of contraception and is approved in more than 100 countries for 5 years of use.
