Abstract
Little is known of the molecular regulators that enable production of large numbers of mature human hematopoietic cells ( approximately 10(12) cells daily) while at the same time ensuring that the progenitor pools are not depleted. At the same time, the system must remain sufficiently flexible to respond to conditions of increased cellular output such as during blood loss or infection. We have identified a key role for the transcription factor PLZF in both these processes.Entities:
