Delayed, bilateral descemet's membrane detachments with spontaneous resolution: Implications for nonsurgical treatment.

Steven M Couch1, Keith H Baratz.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To report a case of delayed bilateral Descemet's detachment with spontaneous resolution in one eye following successful treatment of the fellow eye.
METHOD: Case report.
RESULTS: A 78-year-old male who underwent uncomplicated bilateral cataract extraction with phacoemulsification developed delayed bilateral Descemet's membrane detachments. One eye was successfully treated with pneumatic descemetopexy. After appropriate positioning for the surgical eye, the fellow eye simultaneously and spontaneously resolved.
CONCLUSIONS: Spontaneous resolution of delayed Descemet's membrane detachments can occur. We suggest a mechanism for spontaneous resolution that may have implications for nonsurgical treatment.
