Abstract
The evolution of the amplitudes of two general, codirectional coupled waves is represented as a rotation of a generalized Poincaré sphere in analogy to polarized light. The method permits simple, pictorial representation of coupling effects in directional couplers and "monomode" optical fibers.Year: 1977 PMID: 19680347 DOI: 10.1364/ol.1.000109
