Acute wound pain: gaining a better understanding.

Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the wound care practitioner with an overview of research and knowledge about the causes, mechanisms, contributing factors, and management of acute wound pain. TARGET AUDIENCE: This continuing education activity is intended for physicians and nurses with an interest in skin and wound care.
OBJECTIVES: After reading this article and taking this test, the reader should be able to: 1. Describe the causes of acute wound pain. 2. Discuss research findings related to the physiology of wound pain. 3. Identify current concepts in the management of acute wound pain.
