Afferent projections to A10 dopaminergic neurones in the rat as shown by the retrograde transport of horseradisd peroxidase.

O T Phillipson1.

Abstract

Following the microiontophoresis of horseradish peroxidase to the ventral tegmental area of Tsai, neurones labelled by retrograde transport of the enzyme were observed in a large number of sites throughout the brain. In addition to confirming previously described afferents, these studies suggest so far unknown systems projecting to the area from cerebral cortex, hypothalamus, amygdala, thalamus, superior colliculus, substantia nigra, parabrachial nuclei and medulla oblongata.
