Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To study the nutritional status of primary and middle school students in Huai'an and Nanjing. To discuss the factors which affect the nutritional status of students and provide evidence for intervention among them. METHODS: Height, weight and hemoglobin indexes were measured among 2111 students in Huai'an and 1280 students in Nanjing. The body mass index and Rohrer index were used to assess the status of nutrition. WHO measures and standards were introduced to screen for the anemia ones. RESULTS: The prevalence rates of obesity, overweight, malnutrition and anemia were 9.8%, 3.6%, 17.6% and 25.3% respectively; while the prevalence rates of obesity, overweight, malnutrition and anemia were 13.8%, 8.4%, 23.2% and 22.4% in Nanjing. CONCLUSION: The height and weight of the students in Huaian were lower than the Jiangsu average levels of the students in Huai'an.
