Abstract
Numerous posttranslational modifications alter surface-exposed residues of tubulin within stable microtubules. The significance of one modification, glycylation, characteristic of ciliary and flagellar microtubules, has been particularly elusive. Two groups now identify the glycylation enzymes and determine the developmental consequences of their depletion. Glycylation enzymes and those responsible for another modification, glutamylation, work in opposition to one another in modifying microtubules.Entities:
