Abstract

Secondary amyloidosis of the bladder is a rare cause of hematuria. When it presents, it is a life-threatening condition with a mortality rate of 60%. The diagnosis is based on the anatomopathological finding of amyloid deposits in extracellular interstitium. A case of massive hematuria in a patient with systemic amyloidosis secondary to long-standing rheumatoid arthritis is described. Like most of the cases reported elsewhere, the outcome was fatal.
