HTLV-1-associated myelopathy: first case reported in Taiwan.

Abstract

Taiwan is geographically, culturally, and socially close to southern Japan, which is an endemic area of human T-lymphotropic virus type 1-associated myelopathy (HAM). Taiwan, however, is not an endemic area of HAM. We report the first case of HAM in a native Taiwanese, a 61-year-old woman, without known HTLV-1 risk factors.
