Use of a paediatric early warning system in emergency departments.

Nicola Adshead1, Raynie Thomson.

Abstract

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust has recently implemented a generic paediatric early warning tool that can be used throughout its paediatric services, from admission to discharge. Informal feedback suggests that using the tool has encouraged staff to undertake full sets of observations; this has improved their confidence in recognising deterioration in children and initiating correct interventions.
