The early results of internal fixation of displaced acetabular fractures.

P Keogh1, M Maher, J McElwain.

Abstract

The treatment of choice today for displaced acetabular fractures is anatomical reconstruction by open reduction and internal fixation. Nineteen patients with 20 displaced acetabular fractures treated by this method have been reviewed. A satisfactory outcome was obtained in all but one patient. The surgery is amongst the most demanding in orthopaedics. Specialised radiographic techniques are essential in defining the personality of the fracture and in planning the reconstructive surgery.
