Numb--from flies to humans.

Benedict Yan1.

Abstract

Numb carries the distinction of being the first molecule discovered to influence cell fate by being asymmetrically segregated during cell division. Originally identified from studies in Drosophila, further work has since demonstrated the importance of Numb in mammalian and, in particular, human systems, from diverse fields such as developmental neurobiology to cancer biology and neurodegenerative disease. This review surveys the body of knowledge concerning Numb, and discusses the relevance of Numb to human biology and disease. Copyright (c) 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
