Abstract
Congestive heart failure is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Congestive heart failure is marked by atrial and ventricular enlargements and reduced cardiac contractility and an association with an increased incidence of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death. Dysfunctional ion channel function is one of the major underlying mechanisms of the reduced contractility and arrhythmias. In this review, we explore the utility of ion channels, transporters, and pumps as targets for the treatment of heart failure, focusing predominantly on the treatment for reduced contractility and arrhythmias.Entities:
