Abstract

Reconstruction of facial contour represents a real surgical challenge. Several free flaps have been proposed for these defects: fasciocutaneous free flaps such as groin, deltopectoral, anterolateral thigh, or parascapular and deep inferior epigastric. The authors report their experience with the superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) adiposal flap in two cases of facial contour reconstruction. This technique presents several advantages. In particular, harvest of this flap provides a plenty of fatty tissue and reduced donor site morbidity, with optimal aesthetic results both in the face and at the donor site. For these reasons, the SIEA flap can be considered as the first option for facial contour reconstruction.
