[Difficult communication with next-of-kin].

Narges Moezzi1, Peter Fässler-Weibel.

Abstract

Looking back on the case report of Mr. B. and his spouse as well as on the way our team cared for both of them, it becomes clear how strong the pressure upon family members is and how important professional support is. Relatives have an enormous need for attendance, although this is often not evident for them. Optimal support of family members helps to reduce their uncertainties and fears and to improve patients' quality of life. Empathic and professional behaviour is meant to allow relatives to take leave of their family members in a satisfactory manner.
