Abstract
Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) sepsis is emerging as a significant problem in the intensive care setting. The treatment at any age is challenging, but there is a dearth of information on this infection and its treatment in the very premature infant. We describe successful treatment of persistent bacteremia caused by Enterococcus faecium with vancomycin and high-level gentamicin resistance in a 10-day-old former 23-week premature male infant.Entities:
