Abstract
The use of alternative medicine in the United States has increased over the past 2 decades. With increasing use, the possibility of toxicity also increases. We report two cases of rhabdomyolysis related to the use of two nutritional supplements: Diet Fuel and GlutaMASS. Each of these patients was a young, healthy male who was on a steady training regimen. A review of the literature and of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's database revealed several reports of serious adverse events associated with these supplements and their ingredients. We hypothesize that the use of the supplements combined with normal physical training activities resulted in serious muscle injury.Entities:
