Care of the adult with congenital heart disease.

Michael N Singh1.

Abstract

The population of adults with congenital heart disease (CHD) is growing to the extent that there are now more adults than children with CHD. As this population ages, these patients will need optimal medical care, will be at risk for clinically significant noncardiac comorbidities, and will require methods to decrease adverse outcomes. Recognition of extracardiac risk factors and a multidisciplinary approach to management are essential in caring for this unique group of patients.
