A facile and sensitive spectrophotometric determination of ascorbic acid.

Abstract

A simple and sensitive procedure for the spectrophotometric determination of ascorbic acid is described. It involves formation of ferroin when ascorbic acid reacts with a mixture of iron(III) and 1,10-phenanthroline, and measurement of the absorbance at 510 nm. The procedure has been applied to assay of pharmaceutical preparations of vitamin C. The average error did not exceed 0.3%.
