Abstract
Myosins I are ubiquitous, nonfilamentous, actin-based mechanoenzymes originally discovered in protozoa. The extensive in vitro biochemical studies of purified protozoan myosins I are now being complemented with in vivo studies using cloned myosin I heavy chain genes and gene targeting techniques. Here we review briefly the systems and methods being used in these efforts to dissect protozoan myosin I structure and function using molecular genetic approaches.Entities:
