Abstract
Postnatal development of the human visual cortex is characterized by an overshooting growth pattern of its volume with a maximum at 8 postnatal months and by loss of a substantial proportion of its neurons. The highest rate of reduction in neuronal numbers is observed in layers II-IVa, with other layers showing a more gradual postnatal decrease.Entities:
