Dual-source computed tomography. Evaluating the Siemens Somatom Definition.

.

Abstract

Employing two x-ray sources and detectors instead of one, dual-source computed tomography can scan anatomy in half the time required for conventional CT. This is especially useful when scanning moving structures such as the heart, since dual-source CT produces higher-quality images with much less blurring than single-source CT. In this Evaluation, we take a look at the only dual-source scanner that is commercially available, the Siemens Somatom Definition, and examine the advantages and disadvantages associated with this new technology.
