Abstract
BACKGROUND: A 19-year-old white woman presented with a 6-month history of progressively worsening dysphagia. INVESTIGATIONS: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy, esophageal biopsies followed by histological evaluation of biopsy samples including immunohistochemical staining for herpes simplex virus. DIAGNOSIS: Herpes esophagitis with concurrent eosinophilic esophagitis. MANAGEMENT: Valaciclovir and fluconazole.Entities:
