A critical evaluation of specific aspects of joint development.

A A Pitsillides1, Doreen E Ashhurst.

Abstract

Synovial joint formation has been divided into two phases; the formation of the anlagen of the opposing bones and the interzone and the later formation of the joint cavity. Here we review current theories on the mechanism by which these events are achieved in the joints of the developing limb.
