Persisting onychomycosis caused by Fusarium solani in an immunocompetent patient.

J Brasch, G Köppl.

Abstract

We present a patient with a Fusarium solani infection of both distal thumbnails. She suffered from Basedow's disease but had no signs of reduced immunity. The patient declined antimycotic treatment and the infection was still verifiable after 5 years. Our observation shows that a superficial F. solani infection may persist in immunocompetent patients without causing noteworthy discomfort. Because a superficial F. solani infection may give origin to a systemic infection it should always be treated if host defence is reduced.
