Abstract
Because of the incidence of overwhelming postsplenectomy sepsis that occurs after splenectomy, there is an increased incentive to try to salvage the spleen in patients with splenic injury. Even though operative time is increased by this technique, the advantage of immunologic competence is well worth the added operative time. In hemodynamically unstable patients, however, splenectomy remains the method of choice.Entities:
