Abstract
A mutation in the Duffy antigen (DARC) that abrogates receptor expression and gives profound protection against some malaria species has become almost universal in African populations. He et al. (2008) show that this polymorphism also leads to significantly increased susceptibility to HIV-1 infection but, paradoxically, to prolonged survival in HIV-1-infected subjects.Entities:
