Abstract
We report unusual cases of myocarditis caused by enterovirus 71 (EV71) and a declining trend in the incidence of EV71 in Taiwan since 2005. Furthermore, phylogenetic analysis of the 5' untranslated region, VP4, and VP1 genes of EV71 isolates in 2004-2005 revealed a divergent phylogeny from the previous Taiwanese isolates. No obvious phylogenetically distinct clones or clusters were found related to varying degrees of disease severity or clinical manifestations.Entities:
