Abstract
Octreotide is used as a second-line treatment for hyerinsulinemic hypoglycemia in neonates who do not respond to diazoxide. We present a case of a full-term newborn with massive enterocolitis that developed after octreotide was started for the treatment of refractory hypoglycemia. Multiple intestinal resections were necessary to save intestinal length and restore intestinal function. One case has previously been reported linking the use of octreotide to the development of necrotizing enterocolitis in an infant.Entities:
