Abstract

PURPOSE: To present a comprehensive overview of current information on heel pressure ulcer (PrU) risk, development, prevention, and treatment. TARGET AUDIENCE: This continuing education activity is intended for physicians and nurses with an interest in wound care.
OBJECTIVES: After reading this article and taking this test, the reader should be able to: 1. Identify risk factors for heel PrUs. 2. Describe assessment findings and staging of a heel PrU. 3. Discuss current heel PrU prevention and treatment.
