Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to describe a child with a noncontributory medical history who sought an emergency dental appointment due to a significant facial and neck swelling. The clinical and radiographic exams revealed no odontogenic infection, and the patient was subsequently diagnosed with acute myelogenous leukemia by the hematology/oncology service. This report underscores the important role pediatric dentists can play in an early referral for further workup of a suspected malignancy, which may initially present as extramedullary disease in the head and neck.Entities:
