Complications of endoscopic sinus surgery: appropriate management of complications.

Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Complications of endoscopic sinus surgery occur regardless of the surgical technique and instrumentation. Better understanding of proper management of the complications is crucial for otolaryngologists. The aim of the present review is to describe management of endoscopic sinus surgery complications and discuss the recommended approaches in order to provide a point of departure for clinical decision for otolaryngologists in everyday practice. RECENT
FINDINGS: Outcomes of established surgical techniques, new surgical techniques, modification of existing techniques, and biosurgical materials in the management of endoscopic sinus surgery complications continue to be published with varying results.
SUMMARY: Emerging diagnostic methods, surgical approaches, and new biosurgical material have potential to improve evaluation and management of complications of endoscopic sinus surgery. Randomized comparisons conducted in larger patient groups need to be undertaken to facilitate universal adoption of promising developments.
