Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To describe a patient with a pseudoaneurysm of the internal iliac artery after oocyte retrieval, during an intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and embryo transfer cycle.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: Tertiary center for assisted reproductive technologies (ART). PATIENT(S): A 22-year-old woman with a duration of 6 years of primary infertility. INTERVENTION(S): The evaluation of the pseudoaneurysm with ultrasonography and angiography. The management of pregnancy complicated with pseudoaneurysm and viable treatment modalities. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Healthy baby and treatment of pseudoaneurysm. RESULTS(S): A healthy female infant with a birth weight of 1,470 g was born by cesarean section at 32 weeks of gestation. The pseudoaneurysm of the left inferior pudental artery was completely embolized with 1 mL (50%) of N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. CONCLUSION(S): The pseudoaneurysm of the iliac vessels is an extremely rare complication of the oocyte retrieval procedure. With a multidisciplinary approach, optimal management should depend on the diameter and localization of the pseudoaneurysm, week of gestation, hemodynamic status of the mother and infant, and the available technologies.
