Abstract
Neurogenic pulmonary edema (NPE) is caused by a variety of central nervous system lesions and may appear as a subclinical complication. The fulminant form of NPE is always life-threatening. Many pathophysiologic mechanisms have been implicated in the development of NPE, but the exact interaction remains unknown. We report a case of a fulminant NPE with fatal consequences associated with a subarachnoid hemorrhage. Treatment focuses on ventilatory support and measures to reduce intracranial pressure.Entities:
