Abstract
Many edible plants contain natural estrogens called phytoestrogens. These compounds possess mixed estrogen agonist-antagonist properties that are organ-specific in vivo. We have focused on estrogenic soybean isoflavones because of their potential extensive dietary availability. In this article, we review the clinical and experimental evidence for the possible benefits and risks of ingestion of estrogenic isoflavones throughout the life span, and highlight areas needing further elucidation.Entities:
