Abstract

PURPOSE: To describe a patient who developed cystoid macular oedema (CMO) within 24 h after a single application of Latanoprost.
METHODS: Observational case report.
RESULTS: A 77-year-old man who had a previous cataract operation with vitreous loss in his left eye developed CMO 8 h after instillation of one drop of latanoprost. Five days after discontinuation of latanoprost the CMO resolved almost completely. Both the CMO and its resolution were documented with fluorescein angiography (FA) and optical coherence tomography (OCT).
CONCLUSIONS: Latanoprost can lead to CMO even after a single application, as demonstrated in our case by FA and, in particular, by OCT. Caution is advised when administering the drug in high-risk eyes.
