Abstract
Diabetes in pregnancy has an influence on the development of the fetus. There are strong indications that the intrauterine diabetic milieu has long-lasting consequences. In the rat, mild diabetes during pregnancy induces decreased insulin secretion in later life, whereas severe diabetes is responsible for insulin resistance. In the human, data are available showing a long-term consequence in the offspring of type I diabetes and gestational diabetes mellitus.Entities:
