Abstract

The development of endovascular repair of true popliteal aneurysms has provided an alternative, minimal invasive way of treatment. We present a case of successful emergency endovascular repair of a symptomatic popliteal pseudoaneurysm and percutaneous drainage of the haematoma. An 80-year-old patient with cardiac co-morbidity presented with a symptomatic pseudoaneurysm of the popliteal artery, following a mild blunt trauma. We excluded the aneurysm with a stent-graft. This was followed by ultrasound-guided needle aspiration of the haematoma, leading to an immediate relief of pain, and resolved the pressure on the skin. Patient recovered well, and the follow-up was uneventful. Endovascular repair of a symptomatic popliteal pseudoaneurysm is feasible. Additional ultrasound-guided drainage of the haematoma may relieve pain and prevent skin necrosis.
