[Tuberculosis control in urban areas].

.

Abstract

Directly Observed Treatment, Short Course (DOTS) in Japan was initiated and is now established for homeless TB patients in urban areas. The experience of this DOTS is assisting the development of DOTS in Japan. However, TB incidence and problems are now concentrated in urban areas. What makes tuberculosis control in urban areas difficult? How can we overcome these problems? In this symposium we reviewed TB control activities and discussed the issues highlighted by four presenters.
