A guideline for managing medication related dysphagia.

Richard Griffith1, Cassam Tengnah.

Abstract

Difficulty swallowing medicines affects about a quarter of people seen by health professionals in primary care yet the issue is rarely discussed with patients and often poorly managed. In response to the problems district nurses encounter in patients who have difficulties swallowing their medication Connect Medical have published a consensus guideline outlining best practice in managing the problem. In this article Richard Griffith and Cassam Tengnah describe how the guideline will assist medication management and protect district nurses from liability when treating patients with medication related dysphagia.
