Naser Tayyebi1, Sakineh Amouian, Nema Mohamadian, Hamid Reza Rahimi.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: Mucormycosis is often seen in immunosuppressed patients. Rarely, it involves the kidney alone.
METHODS: In two patients, mucormycosis was found in renal allografts removed because of rejection.
RESULTS: In both cases, transplant nephrectomy was curative.
CONCLUSION: Mucormycosis must be considered in the differential diagnosis of patients with renal allograft rejection so that prompt treatment can rescue the patient and the graft.
