Basic aspects of absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy and resonance energy transfer methods.

Natasha Shanker1, Susan L Bane.

Abstract

Absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy are the heart of life science laboratory techniques. These two spectroscopic tools are sensitive, are easy to use, and can provide a wide range of information. The goal of this chapter is to familiarize the reader with some basic principles and applications of absorption and steady-state fluorescence spectroscopy. Selected applications are illustrated with examples.
