Abstract

OBJECTIVE: To report two cases of isolated fallopian tubal torsion that emphasize the rarity and difficult of diagnosis.
DESIGN: Case report.
SETTING: A district general hospital. PATIENT(S): We report two cases of hematosalpinx due to torsion of the fallopian tube. The symptoms were not specific; both patients had acute lower abdominal pain. The first diagnosis in both cases was a torsion of a pelvic complex mass like a tumor. INTERVENTION(S): Laparoscopy is necessary, but often surgery is performed too late to preserve the tube. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE(S): Resolution of symptoms with preservation of fertility. RESULT(S): Both patients had the tube removed. CONCLUSION(S): Early diagnosis and surgical intervention is mandatory when isolated fallopian tube torsion is suspected, particularly in a nulliparous young woman.
