Preparing patients for hip and knee replacement surgery.

Abstract

This article considers the pre-operative physical, psychological and social factors that affect the outcomes of patients undergoing total hip and total knee replacement surgery. The implications for patient assessment before surgery are discussed and suggestions made about how interventions can be tailored so that patients' needs are met.
