Abstract
Of all medical errors, medication errors are the most common as well as the most frequent cause of adverse events, the majority of them being preventable. Errors are possible at any step of the process from ordering, dispensing and administration. Neonates are reported to be at greater risk of medication error than older children and adults. The type and frequencies of reported errors are a function of the method of detection. Drug errors are a consequence of human and system errors, and preventive strategies are possible through system analysis. Interventions to decrease medication-related adverse events in neonatal intensive care unit should aim to increase staff awareness of medication safety issues and focus on medication administration process.Entities:
