Abstract
The utilization of cephalosporins in serious bacterial infections in children has become more widely accepted by pediatric infectious disease specialists over the past five years. The use of cephalosporins has become increasingly popular in empiric antibiotic regimens. The recognition that age-specific bacterial pathogens in neonates, older infants and children can be effectively treated with cephalosporins alone, or in combination with ampicillin, has led to this increasing popularity. This review will discuss the use of cephalosporins in empiric antibiotic regimens and relate the efficacy and safety of specific cephalosporins in the treatment of serious bacterial infections in children.Entities:
