Abstract
Insulin resistance is an important risk factor for the development of type 2 diabetes and the metabolic syndrome. A new study in this issue of Cell Metabolism (Sun et al., 2007) shows that SIRT1, a mammalian sirtuin homolog and histone deacetylase, can ameliorate insulin resistance by silencing expression of protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B, a major negative regulator of insulin action.Entities:
