Baffin island refugia older than 54,000 years.

O H Löken.

Abstract

Two radiocarbon determinations on marine shells from the east coast of Baffin Island give ages exceeding 50,000 years. These findings indicate the existence of unglaciated areas ( refugia) between fiords occupied by outlet glaciers flowing toward Baffin Bay, from the central part of the Wisconsin ice sheet, over the Foxe Basin-Hudson Bay area.
