Epidemiology and pathogenesis of systemic fungal infections in the immunocompromised host.

D W Denning1.

Abstract

The epidemiology and pathogenesis of invasive candidosis and aspergillosis, cryptococcal meningitis, mucormycosis and disseminated histoplasmosis are reviewed. Particular areas of growth of knowledge that are emphasized are the epidemiology of candidosis and aspergillosis, putative virulence factors in aspergillosis and the pathogenesis of cryptococcosis.
